Job description

Welcome and warmly greet all guests upon arrival. Manage the efficient and timely seating of our guests to a table that best serves their wishes. Maintain the flow of the restaurant so as not to overwhelm any given area and the guest experience is not compromised. Thank every guest as they depart.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Lead and oversee host department.
  • Provide attentive and personalized service to our guests, ensuring loyalty is built, needs are exceeded, and the restaurant experience is rooted in generosity, warmth and comfort.
  • Communicate with all Managers to ensure that all special requests are carried out.
  • Communicate with management regarding any guest concerns and issues.
  • Plan for the flow of business depending on events on property, the LA Tourism Convention calendar, local happenings at surrounding businesses like theaters, sports arena and colleges.
  • Maintain relationships with local business concierge.
  • Maintain property calendar to include the LA Tourism Convention calendar and local happenings.
  • Maintain awareness regarding our standards of organization/cleanliness of the physical dining room; communicate in a timely fashion any concerns regarding dining room equipment and supplies.
  • Ensure consistent, thorough, and timely communication with peers, managers, customers and vendors.
  • Responsible for inventory and ordering of menu supplies.
  • Responsible for training and onboarding new hosts.
  • Confirm and maintain large party reservations through events CRM.
  • Map the reservations/books for service daily and look ahead.
  • Update menus daily according to menu guidelines and SOP.
  • Respond to all incoming guest emails, phone calls and voicemails in a timely manner.
  • Warmly and graciously greet all guests upon arrival.
  • When possible, open the front door for guests entering or leaving the restaurant.
  • Effectively work the reservation/CRM system.
  • Provide guests with estimated waiting time.
  • Accommodate special seating requests for guests whenever possible.
  • Seat guests based on preferences and balancing of customer flow in server stations.
  • Effectively communicate with management on VIPs, special guest notes and requests, including service flow and long wait times.
  • Communicate with servers when a table is sat.
  • Communicate with the kitchen about changes with guest flow throughout the shift.
  • Deliver chits to respective departments or stations.
  • Offer guests water while waiting for tables.
  • Maintain the cleanliness of the host station, front entry of the restaurant and lounge area as needed.
  • Know what events are taking place on the property, and guide guests to respective areas.
  • Communicate with the events department once guests arrive.
  • Distribute event information to the respective departments and update OpenTable with all current scheduled events.
  • Thank guests as they leave and invite them to return.
  • Be ready and willing to assist fellow employees as situations arise.
  • Be available to fill in as needed to ensure the smooth and efficient operation of the restaurant as directed by the restaurant manager or immediate supervisor.
Working Conditions and Expectations
  • Work schedule may vary between early morning to late evening, weekends and holidays.
  • Shifts will range from 4‑8 hours; overtime may be requested at times.
  • Ability to work in a fast‑paced environment and keep up with guest needs.
  • Work inside as well as outside dining areas.
  • May be scheduled to work events as needed.
  • Always act in a professional manner that represents the restaurant, owners, partners and staff.
  • Respectful to all guests who dine at our restaurants.
  • Have working knowledge of all steps of service.
  • Have working knowledge of food and beverage menus.
  • Demonstrate teamwork in all areas of the restaurant.
  • Work with a positive attitude in all types of situations.
  • Follow safety and sanitation rules and laws at all times.
  • Attend all scheduled employee meetings.
  • Always act in the best interest of the restaurant, fellow employees and guests.
  • Welcome and accept feedback and coaching from the management team to maintain and grow as an employee.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.

  • Working knowledge of food menu.
  • Food Handlers certificate and Responsible Beverage Service (RBS) Certificate required.
Physical Requirements
  • Must be able to work in a standing position for long periods of time (up to 8 hours).
  • Must be able to reach, bend, stoop and frequently lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Must be able to ascend and descend up to 5 floors of stairs.

Compensation: $23.00 per hour
