Job summary

NC Department of Transportation is seeking an Engineering Specialist II in the Weaverville area to support engineers in day-to-day administration of highway and bridge construction contracts. The role may lead inspections on large projects and supervise CEI staff.

Responsibilities include monitoring operations for compliance, reviewing test reports, and ensuring proper application of permits and environmental requirements. Travel across Division 13 locations may be required.

Qualifications

• Experience planning, developing, scheduling, tracking and completing projects with limited supervision.
• Strong customer service experience resolving problems involving engineering concepts.
• Ability to read, interpret and explain construction plans, contracts and permits.
• Experience working in teams to complete assignments.

Responsibilities

• Lead project inspector on large highway construction projects or multiple smaller projects.
• Monitor contractor operations to ensure compliance with specifications and permits.
• Prepare monthly/final pay estimates and evaluate supplemental agreements and claims.
• Communicate and coordinate with contractors, utilities, and property owners.
• Supervise and train lower-level technicians and CEI staff.
