Job summary

Virginia Department of Transportation is seeking an experienced Construction Inspector to independently coordinate, schedule and inspect highway construction projects. You will ensure quality in accordance with plans and specs, monitor safety and environmental controls, and maintain thorough project documentation.

The role requires strong communication with VDOT staff, contractors and the public, plus the ability to manage multiple inspections, submittals and events.

Qualifications

• Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing with VDOT and contractor personnel and the general public.
• Ability to read, interpret and analyze roadway, structure and bridge plans, construction contracts and other project management documents.
• Ability to record and maintain detailed project documentation and prepare reports, forms and correspondence.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate, schedule and inspect highway construction projects to ensure quality following plans and specs.
• Monitor inspections to ensure compliance with contracts, environmental and safety requirements.
• Maintain as-built drawings and project documentation; track submittals and correspondence.
• Attend progress meetings, prepare minutes, and manage project budgets and quantities.
• Oversee and provide guidance to other inspectors and support staff.
• Ensure proper safety practices and traffic controls in work zones.
