Job summary

Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL) seeks a Materials Scientist to lead R&D for high-temperature electrolyzers using advanced metal and ceramic manufacturing approaches. You will conduct research in hydrogen production and energy resilience, becoming part of a team advancing materials performance and energy efficiency.

Qualifications

  • PhD in materials science with relevant experience is preferred
  • Experience leading research on high-temperature electrolyzers or SOEC/SOFC is highly desirable
  • Demonstrated record of publications and collaboration in a team environment
  • Strong writing and communication skills are required

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute experimental plans to synthesize and characterize materials for high-temperature electrolyzers
  • Direct laboratory work with support of technical staff
  • Analyze electrochemical data and formulate conclusions
  • Support scoping, scheduling, and budgeting at project level
  • Mentor junior staff and peers; collaborate across teams
  • Lead proposals and manage scope, schedule, and resources
