Job summary

City of Joplin, MO seeks an Equipment Operator to perform skilled operation of a range of heavy maintenance and construction equipment. The role requires experience with sewer work, ditch cleaning, and road repairs, along with the ability to lead crews on job sites.

Applicants should have a high school diploma or GED and a Class B CDL with Hazmat/Tanker endorsements; experience with heavy equipment is preferred.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of traffic laws and safety precautions for operating heavy equipment.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with City employees and the public.
• Experience operating and maintaining heavy maintenance and/or construction equipment.
• Ability to operate and maintain assigned equipment.

Responsibilities

• Operates heavy construction equipment (bulldozer, snowplow, grader, excavator/backhoe, loader, sewer truck).
• Performs ditch cleaning, snow removal, concrete work, and stormwater pipe installation/repair.
• Inspects fluid levels, refuels, and performs preventive maintenance.
• Transports equipment to/from work sites and operates on/near roadways and public property.
• Serves as crew leader on job sites and communicates with Public Works staff.
• Attends departmental meetings and maintains confidentiality of files; performs other duties as assigned.
