Job summary

Mt. Carmel Stabilization Group is seeking a Lead Heavy Equipment Union Mechanic to oversee day-to-day repairs in our Columbus shop.

You will diagnose, repair, and maintain a wide range of heavy equipment, lead other mechanics, and coordinate shop workflow to keep jobs moving. Ideal candidates have 5+ years of hands-on experience with diesel engines, hydraulics, electrical systems, and powertrain components, plus the ability to read schematics and use OEM service information.

Qualifications

5+ years of experience repairing and maintaining heavy equipment preferred.
Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting skills.
Experience with diesel engines, hydraulics, electrical systems, and powertrain components.
Ability to read and understand hydraulic and electrical schematics.
Ability to use diagnostic tools and manufacturer service information.
Strong understanding of preventative maintenance and equipment inspections.
Previous experience leading, mentoring, or coordinating other mechanics preferred.
Ability to work independently and make sound repair decisions.
Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record.
Ability to lift, carry, and work with heavy parts and components.
Welding and fabrication experience.
CDL, manufacturer's certifications, MVAC, or other relevant certifications are a plus.

Responsibilities

Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair heavy construction and diesel engines.
Perform mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and engine diagnostics and repairs.
Service and maintain equipment including Stabilizers, excavators, skid steers, loaders, dozers, compactors, water trucks, and other specialized heavy equipment.
Read and interpret service manuals, hydraulic schematics, wiring diagrams, and diagnostic information.
Inspect equipment to identify mechanical problems, safety issues, and preventative maintenance needs.
Lead and assist other mechanics with difficult diagnostics and repairs.
Prioritize and assign shop work based on equipment needs, deadlines, and available resources.
Review completed repairs to ensure work is performed properly and equipment is safe to operate.
Communicate repair findings, required parts, and estimated labor needs to management.
Help identify parts and materials needed for repairs and coordinate with parts suppliers as needed.
Maintain accurate service records and document repairs and parts used.
Perform preventative maintenance and inspections.
Assist with field repairs and service calls when necessary.
Maintain a clean, organized, and safe shop environment.
Follow OSHA, company, and equipment manufacturer safety procedures.
Train and mentor less-experienced mechanics and apprentices.
Help management identify recurring equipment problems and recommend cost-effective repair solutions.
Perform other mechanical and shop-related duties as needed.
