Job summary

City of Garland is seeking a Heavy Duty Mechanic to repair and maintain all levels of heavy shop vehicles and equipment. You will lead mechanics, oversee repairs, diagnose diesel engines, tires, and hydraulic systems, and support roadside service.

This role requires ASE certifications and strong safety discipline. The position involves shift flexibility, including nights and weekends, with a pay range shown for experience.

Qualifications

• 1 year advanced study past the high school level
• 5 years related experience
• 3 Truck ASE Certifications
• Must own basic hand and air tools
• Must be familiar with Heavy Duty diagnostic software
• Must have experience with Diesel/After treatment
• Must have experience with Repair and Diagnostic of Hydraulic systems
• Ability to lift over 50 lbs.
• Familiar with Mack, Freightliner, Cummins and Allison brands or equivalent experience

Responsibilities

• Repair and maintain heavy shop vehicles and equipment.
• Lead mechanics in maintenance of City trucks and heavy-duty equipment.
• Perform preventative maintenance and diagnose repair needs.
• Inspect and service heavy-duty tires and wheels and related systems.
• Order parts as needed and maintain a safe, clean Fleet Shop.
• Respond to road calls and roadside tire service; coordinate safe repairs.
