Job summary

The Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (DOT&PF) seeks a Heavy Duty Mechanic, Automotive, Advanced Journey/Lead to maintain and repair equipment used on Alaska roadways and airports. This role includes diagnosing complex issues, performing routine and specialized repairs, and ensuring safety and reliability in a challenging environment.

Qualified applicants may be offered paid training to obtain a CDL.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of machines and tools, design, repair and maintenance.
• Ability to adapt to changing conditions and new information.
• Knowledge of motor vehicle engines, parts, systems and maintenance.
• Self-motivated with initiative and reliable work habits.

Responsibilities

• Professionally maintain heavy-duty and light-duty equipment for roads, airports and other vehicles.
• Diagnose and repair unusual or complex equipment problems; perform routine and specialized repairs.
• Diagnose, maintain, repair and modify transmissions, drive trains, suspension, engine, emission, fuel injection, hydraulics and brakes for light/heavy equipment.
