Job summary

Hatched Recruitment Group is seeking an accomplished civil estimator to lead major public works bids. The role demands 10+ years of estimating experience in heavy civil, highway and utility projects, with a track record of self-performed work and strong quantity takeoff, cost analysis and bid preparation.

You will mentor junior staff, review plans and subcontractor proposals, and ensure bids reflect realistic means and production.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of civil construction estimating experience.
• Strong background in heavy civil, highway, roadway or public works construction.
• Experience estimating self-performed work rather than relying on subcontractor pricing.
• Ability to interpret civil plans, specifications and contract documents.
• Strong quantity takeoff, cost analysis and bid preparation skills.
• Experience with public-sector bidding and agency requirements.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to work closely with operations and field leadership.
• Ability to mentor less experienced estimators and contribute to the development of the estimating team.

Responsibilities

• Lead and own estimates from initial opportunity through bid submission.
• Review plans, specifications and bid documents to establish complete project scope.
• Develop quantities, production rates and bid pricing for competitive proposals.
• Mentor junior estimators and help improve estimating processes and tools.
• Collaborate with operations to ensure estimates reflect realistic means and production.
• Support pre-bid meetings, site visits and client discussions.
• Review subcontractor and supplier proposals and identify scope gaps and value alternatives.
