Job summary

Metric Geo is seeking an experienced Heavy Civil Estimator to support preconstruction and business development by preparing accurate, competitive cost estimates across a wide range of infrastructure projects. The role covers roadways, bridges, and utilities for DOT, municipal, aviation, railroad, and government clients.

You will review documents, perform takeoffs, price labor/materials/equipment, and coordinate with subcontractors to ensure robust bids and effective bid strategy.

Qualifications

• Prepare pricing for labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractors.
• Experience with heavy civil estimating or project delivery.

• Participate in pre-bid meetings, site visits, and estimating reviews.
• Support post-bid activities including budgets, buyouts, and handoffs.

Metric Geo are currently recruiting for an experienced Heavy Civil Estimator to support preconstruction and business development efforts by preparing accurate, competitive cost estimates across a wide range of infrastructure projects. This role covers disciplines including roadway, structures, paving, grading, drainage, and utilities for DOT, municipal, aviation, railroad, and government clients.

Key Responsibilities

• Review and interpret bid documents, plans, and specifications to define scope and risks
• Perform detailed quantity takeoffs and develop complete cost estimates
• Prepare pricing for labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractor scopes
• Coordinate with subcontractors and suppliers to validate pricing and coverage
• Lead or support multidisciplinary estimating efforts across heavy civil projects
• Identify risks, constructability issues, and value engineering opportunities
• Develop bid packages and prepare formal proposals for submission
• Collaborate with operations teams (paving, structures, equipment, QC, survey) for bid strategy
• Assist with scheduling inputs and preliminary project planning
• Participate in pre-bid meetings, site visits, and estimating reviews
• Support post-bid activities including budgets, buyouts, and handoffs

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or equivalent experience
• 5+ years of experience in heavy civil estimating or project delivery roles
• Strong knowledge of civil construction means, methods, and costs
• Experience with public infrastructure projects (roadways, bridges, grading, drainage, etc.)
• Proficiency with estimating tools (HCSS preferred), Bluebeam, MS Office, and scheduling software
• Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills
• Ability to manage multiple bids under tight deadlines
• CM/GC or Design-Build experience preferred
