Job summary

Drake University Head Start program seeks a Head Start Teacher to lead a classroom of 3- to 5-year-olds and a Teacher Associate. You will develop, implement, and evaluate developmentally appropriate curricula and practice while meeting licensing and program standards.

The role emphasizes collaboration with staff, families, and community partners; maintaining accurate records; and ensuring a safe, inclusive classroom that supports every child’s growth and learning within Drake’s Head Start

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in early childhood or elementary education or related field.
• One year of experience in a preschool setting.
• Ability to pass state childcare licensing requirements.
• Ability to be insured by the university's insurance carrier.

Responsibilities

• Maintain children's files and admission forms; ensure licensing compliance.
• Document and monitor children's progress; evaluate curriculum effectiveness.
• Implement lesson plans and adapt to individual learning styles.
• Create developmentally appropriate environments; support social-emotional development.
• Communicate with parents, staff, volunteers, and visitors; build trust.
• Coordinate health issues with designated school nurses and CACFP requirements.
