Job summary

Glass Roots Construction (GRC) is seeking an experienced Directional Drill Operator Superintendent in California. You will start in the drill seat and advance to leading multiple drill crews, building and guiding a self-performed HDD program. This role emphasizes safety, efficiency, and in-house production.

Responsibilities include hands-on drilling, operator development, goal setting, and standardizing drilling practices across projects. Travel to client locations within the region is required.

Qualifications

• 15+ years of hands-on HDD experience.
• Knowledge of bore planning, steering and locating systems.
• Ability to train operators and locators to work independently.
• Thorough understanding of underground utilities, the 811 locate process, and potholing.

Responsibilities

• Operate a drill rig and oversee daily drilling activities.
• Develop operators and locators through hands-on training and progression plans.
• Set daily/weekly drilling goals and coordinate with Construction Managers and Foremen.
• Lead bore planning; guide tooling and drilling-fluid selection; troubleshoot grounds issues.
• Ensure rigs, locators, mud systems, and tooling are inspected and ready on site.
• Report drilling results and costs to the Senior Director of Construction.
