Job summary

Montgomery College in Germantown seeks a Grounds Maintenance Worker Lead to supervise staff and perform routine grounds maintenance, including mowing, pruning, litter removal, and snow/ice tasks during inclement weather.

The role requires prior lead experience in commercial landscaping, a valid Class C license, and ability to operate heavy equipment. Includes benefits and retirement participation.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED with education, training and experience providing understanding of the trade and duties.
• Three years of hands-on lead/foreman experience in commercial landscape or grounds maintenance.
• Experience operating snow removal equipment such as tractors and trucks with blades.
• Valid Class C Driver's License with endorsements if applicable.
• Equivalent education/education verification for non-U.S. degrees may be required.
• Background check and degree verification; Maryland State Retirement System participation may be required.

Responsibilities

• Provide guidance and instruction to assigned staff.
• Receive and delegate work assignments and review/inspect the work of staff.
• Perform routine grounds maintenance including graffiti/trash removal and landscaping tasks.
• Maintain landscaped areas: mowing, edging, seeding, fertilizing, pruning, and debris removal.
• Clean parking lots and sidewalks, maintain aquatic areas, and remove dead animals.
• Operate vehicles and various tools/equipment; perform basic repairs/maintenance on equipment.
• Process work orders and assist with special events (e.g., Commencement).
• Perform other duties as assigned.
