Job summary

Garmin International seeks a Lead Global Commodity Manager - Memory/Electrical at its U.S. headquarters in the Kansas City area.

You will craft strategic sourcing plans across electronic and electro-mechanical commodities, lead multi-site negotiations, and drive cost and value improvements for the business. You will mentor other GCMs, influence supplier decisions, and ensure parts readiness for NPI programs.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a related Operations or Engineering field with 9+ years of commodity management experience.
• Experience managing commodities with executive level relationships and complex negotiations.
• Strong verbal, written, negotiating and analytical skills; capable of leading multi-time zone projects.
• Proven track record of cost reduction, supplier relationship management and PPV optimization.
• Willingness to travel domestically and internationally.

Responsibilities

Overview

We are seeking a full-time Lead Global Commodity Manager - Memory/Electrical at Garmin's U.S. headquarters in the Greater Kansas City area. In this role, you will be responsible for managing complex comprehensive strategic sourcing plans that create maximum benefits for the business.

Essential Functions

• Responsible for commodity strategies related to electronic, electro-mechanical, mechanical products and or services including: sourcing strategy, spend segmentation, supply market analysis, supplier capabilities assessment, supplier recruitment and management, RFI/P/Q development, developing a business case for improved supply and/or service, risk assessment and management, leading complex negotiations while managing assigned commodities or services across multiple global sites
• Demonstrated leadership skills to drive the execution of supply chain strategies in a collaborative and multi-site matrix environment to achieve both tactical and strategic goals
• Coach/mentor/serve as a leader to less experienced GCM’s and provide assistance to less experienced GCMs on managing their workloads and able to lead and motivate cross functional teams to achieve goals
• Demonstrate a deep knowledge and understanding of Commodities Managed
• Proven track record of successful cost reduction initiatives and supplier relationship management
• Demonstrate comprehensive knowledge of commodities and commodity market trends and serve as an expert in influencing, leading and driving project implementation of supply chain strategies and development of short- and long-term goals for management consideration in support of customer requirements
• Manage and lead for multi-site negotiations and executions of sourcing agreements for assigned commodities and/or services
• Lead and negotiate complex strategic agreements and drive cost, quality, delivery and service improvements across multiple departments and sites continuously
• Manage and lead extensive projects and meet timelines
• Use analytical and qualitative methods to analyze market commodities and product data
• Demonstrate comprehensive knowledge and serve as a technical leader for assigned commodities and supply chain services
• Demonstrate ability to contribute to the success of meetings and/or exceed departmental KPI’s
• Organize, facilitate and manage cross-functional teams to develop commodity and service strategies
• Partner and drive New Product Introduction (NPI) teams to ensure sourcing decisions achieve overall commodity objectives and all parts for prototype builds are available in advance
• Identify, lead and help drive technical root cause and corrective action for assigned product or service responsibilities
• Assure execution of Supplier Guidelines with responsible suppliers in support of various sites
• Achieve positive peer and internal recognition within department and company
• Demonstrate being a mature professional able to successfully carry out complex projects and/or participate in project leadership
• Demonstrate support, mentoring and leadership of other Global Commodity Managers
• Demonstrate support of other Strategic Supply Chain Mangers to maximize results

Basic Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in a related Operations or Engineering field AND a minimum of 9 years directly demonstrated experience in managing commodities OR an equivalent combination of education and related supply chain experience
• Requires extensive demonstrated experience managing commodities with Executive level relationships
• Must demonstrate strong verbal, written, negotiating, presenting and analytical skills
• Must demonstrate a proven track record to prioritize, organize and multi-task in a flexible, fast paced and challenging environment to effectively meet deadlines across multiple time zones
• Demonstrated proficient knowledge of the workings of an Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) software
• Must possess demonstrated knowledge of Manufacturing Resource Planning (MRPII)/Master Production Schedule (MPS) process
• Demonstrated comprehensive technical knowledge within the commodity managed
• Demonstrated extensive experience assessing requirements, negotiating and executing supply contracts and or service agreements with a focus on maximizing PPV
• Ability to travel domestically and internationally
• Demonstrated comprehensive experience assessing all supply chain attributes with a focus on maximizing PPV over long term programs
• Must demonstrate an extensive proven knowledge and understanding of the global markets that impact the managed commodity
• Must demonstrate the ability to understand, analyze and use components of costs in driving cost savings and efficiencies
• Must demonstrate the ability to act as a leader on the team by providing recommendations and guidance for less senior members on the team
• Demonstrates ability to support, mentor and lead other Global Commodity Managers to maximize results
• Ability to quickly and efficiently identify new sources and technologies as requested by Engineering Design teams and perform advanced due diligence including technical capabilities, audits, commercial assessments, supply chain verification, capacity constraints and establishing a preferred customer status
• Demonstrated ability to prepare for, coordinate, manage and execute QBR’s and Quarterly Negotiations

Desired Qualifications

• Master’s Degree in an engineering field / Master’s Degree in an engineering field AND a minimum of 8 years’ demonstrated experience in managing commodities
• Demonstrated experience in managing commodities
• Extensive AOEM knowledge and consumer electronics experience
• Multilingual
• Previous experience in an electronics manufacturing environment
