Job summary

Freeport-McMoRan is seeking a seasoned Geologist for the Chino operation in southwestern New Mexico. You will log drill samples, conduct geologic mapping, and build resource block models to support exploration and development.

You will supervise drilling activities, mentor Geologist I/II, and integrate geological data into maps and cross sections while ensuring regulatory compliance. A Bachelor's degree with 5 years’ experience or a Master’s with 3 years is required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Geology or related discipline with five years of geology experience OR Master's degree with three years of geology experience.
• Experience in logging core and drill cuttings and geologic mapping.
• Ability to supervise contractors, mentor staff and deliver quality resource models.

Responsibilities

• Log core and RC drill samples and peer review logging quality.
• Supervise drilling, road construction and sample prep by contractors.
• Integrate rock type, alteration, structure, assays and mineralogy into maps and cross sections.
• Coach Geologist I/II to develop skills and competencies.
• Supervise a team creating computerized resource block models per standards.
• Maintain awareness of applicable regulations at federal, state and local level.
• Provide guidance to site management on programs and regulatory practices.
• Prepare drill hole databases, deposit maps and other exploration records.
• Collaborate with Metallurgists on samples for processing tests and ore type development.
• Perform surface and underground geologic mapping.
• Assist in short-range plans and budget for exploration and evaluation.
