Job summary

East Texas A&M University’s Lyon Center for Gamebird Research seeks a seasoned Gamebird Production Manager to lead day-to-day operations of the production facility, supervise staff, ensure biosecurity, and align production with research goals.

The role emphasizes collaboration with faculty and staff, adherence to animal-use and safety protocols, and a commitment to delivering high-quality gamebirds while supporting center missions and professional development.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent; 5+ years in poultry/gamebird industry with at least 3 years in a leadership role.
• Experience producing quail is preferred.
• Strong leadership, communication and organizational skills; ability to manage staff and budgets.
• Ability to develop, implement, and oversee production SOPs and biosecurity protocols.

Responsibilities

• Manage gamebird production, quality control, biosecurity, equipment, maintenance, sanitation, and procurement.
• Develop and execute production SOPs for gamebird production.
• Monitor facility to meet production and research goals while ensuring safety and compliance.
• Oversee daily care of eggs and birds per animal-use and biosecurity protocols.
• Provide accurate bird counts and manage mortalities.
• Coordinate customer interactions and bird sales.
• Collaborate with faculty to integrate research into production.
• Train, supervise, and evaluate production staff.
• Participate in programmatic and strategic planning for the Lyon Center.
• Perform administrative tasks and support the center’s mission.
