Job summary

The City of Chicago invites applications for the Lead Forensic Scientist - Latent Fingerprints in the Chicago Police Department’s Forensic Services Division. Under supervision, oversee latent print development/examination, supervise staff, and ensure quality in casework.

Location is Chicago; starting salary is $90,144 yearly with standard 6:00AM–2:00PM or 2:00PM–10:00PM shifts. This is a career service position with opportunity for growth and advancement.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or higher in Forensic Science or related field with four years of forensic experience OR
• Master's or higher in Forensic Science or related field with three years of forensic experience
• Certification in Latent Prints (IAI) within six months of hire is required or can be obtained

Responsibilities

• Oversees receipt, collection, and preservation of evidence in CPD Forensic Laboratory
• Supervises staff work assignments for completeness and accuracy
• Writes discipline-specific policies, procedures and methods
• Performs independent casework and evaluations in primary forensic discipline
• Testifies as an expert witness in court on forensic techniques
