Job summary

Kent State University in Kent, OH seeks a Lead Flight Specialist to provide dedicated flight instruction for a collegiate flight training program under FAR Part 141, reporting to the Chief Flight Instructor.

This role includes serving as the lead instructor for students in hold-over status, coordinating scheduling of students and instructors, and maintaining an electronic flight training records system.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field.
  • Six months’ experience as a certified flight instructor, including FAR 141 instruction.
  • Must be in good standing with the Aviation Industry.

$18.20 - $19.75 ($37,843-$41,086)

Basic Function

To provide dedicated flight instruction for a collegiate flight training program in accordance with Federal Aviation Regulations - Part 141: Pilot Schools and Kent State University’s Curricular Policies. Reports to Chief Flight Instructor.

Examples of Duties
  • Serve as a flight instructor.
  • Serve as the lead instructor for students in a hold-over flight status.
  • Assist in the coordination of the scheduling of students, instructors, and resources for flight training; assists in the monitoring of student progression; participates and assists in meetings with flight training personnel.
  • Assist in managing an electronic flight training records system for all flight training personnel.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field. Minimum of six months' experience as a certified flight instructor, including FAR 141 flight instruction experience. Must be in good standing with the Aviation Industry.

License/Certification

A current CFII certificate is required Valid Commercial Pilot Certificate –Airplane Single & Multiengine Land; Instrument Airplane or Valid Airline Transport Pilot Certificate Valid Flight Instructor Certificate-Airplane Single-Engine; Instrument Airplane Hold and maintain an FAA Medical Certificate Second Class Valid U.S. Driver’s License FAA Second Class Medical Certificate. Individuals will be subject to controlled substance/alcohol testing in positions where such is required by federal regulations.

Ability To
  • Complete a reoccurring proficiency check for appropriate course(s) every 12 calendar months per Federal Aviation Regulations - Part 141.85(a)(2)
  • Complete an approved syllabus of training consisting of ground or flight training, or both, or an approved Flight Instructor Refresher Course (FIRC) once every 12 calendar months per Federal Aviation Regulations - Part 141.79(c)
  • Maintain full compliance with Federal Aviation Regulations (FARs)
  • Maintain full compliance with the Transportation Security Administration (TSA)
  • Maintain safety as a top priority; assures adherence to and maintenance of safety standards during day-to-day operations
Preferred Qualifications – if applicable

Multi-Engine Instructor (MEI) preferred. Check Instructor experience preferred.

Working Conditions / Physical Requirements

Moderate work. Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently to move objects. May require hand pulling and pushing of aircraft. May be exposed to one or more of the following elements, but not limited to: Heat, cold, rain, snow, ice, turbulence, storms, noise, dirt, chemicals, darkness-all of which may be extreme. Incumbent must be able to communicate with others. Incumbent may be required to travel from building to building frequently and off campus frequently.
