Job summary

Rocket Lab is seeking a Principal Flight Software Engineer to drive the development of flight software for Space Systems. Based in Littleton, CO, you will design, implement, test, and deploy software that will run on spacecraft hardware and operate in orbit.

You will lead software teams, collaborate with hardware and systems engineers, and participate in critical design reviews while supporting on-orbit operations. A seasoned engineer with a passion for space exploration is encouraged to apply.

Qualifications

• Requires Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related field.
• 12+ years of demonstrated experience in embedded software development.
• Proficiency in Rust, C++, and C languages.
• Experience with RTOS or Embedded Linux.
• Experience leading junior software developers and cross-disciplinary collaboration.
• Active Security clearance OR ability to obtain and maintain one.
• U.S. citizenship is required for program access.

Responsibilities

• Develop application software to run on RTOS and/or embedded Linux.
• Develop and maintain hardware drivers for IMUs, star trackers, reaction wheels and sensors.
• Create and maintain unit tests within CI pipelines.
• Collaborate with hardware-in-the-loop test teams to verify software/hardware integration.
• Work with systems and embedded engineers to develop, document, and validate requirements.
• Participate in code reviews and design reviews (PDR/CDR).
• Assist with on-orbit flight operations.
