Job summary

Summit School Services seeks a Lead Fleet Technician to set safety and uptime standards for a school bus fleet. You will diagnose, repair, and oversee maintenance on medium/heavy vehicles, manage inspections readiness (DVIR, DOT/state), and mentor technicians to keep routes on time and safe.

As part of the team, you will partner with the Maintenance Leader to plan work, ensure quality, and maintain an efficient shop. CDL preferred; ASE training encouraged; strong English communication required.

Qualifications

• Minimum five years of medium/heavy truck fleet mechanic repair experience.
• At least one year of leadership experience or training.
• Proficient with diagnostic equipment to identify and troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and A/C issues.
• Advanced technical knowledge of major vehicle components in diesel and gas equipment.
• Possess the recommended minimum hand tools for a diesel technician.
• Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English.
• Valid state license (CDL preferred) with company training available.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose and repair automotive and diesel systems per skill level.
• Perform engine adjustments, rebuilds, and test drives to verify repairs.
• Complete safety inspections and sign-offs before releasing vehicles.
• Maintain safe, organized, compliant workspace per federal/state/local standards.
• Log labor hours, parts used, and completed work accurately.
• Respond to road calls and perform mobile repairs when needed.
• Oversee day-to-day workflow and guide technicians through preventive maintenance.
