Job summary

The Maryland-National Capital Park & Planning Commission is seeking an Automotive/Equipment Mechanic II to perform高级 skilled mechanical work on heavy equipment and diesel trucks in Upper Marlboro, MD. The role requires diagnostic and repair capabilities across engines, transmissions, hydraulic systems, and electrical components.

Responsibilities include preventive maintenance, major repairs, and supervising junior staff while ensuring safety and compliance with regulations.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED is required.
  • Completion of an approved mechanical apprentice program; or four (4) years of progressively responsible experience in maintenance and repair on automotive and/or heavy motor equipment.
  • Two (2) years of experience at the journey level.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted, which together total six (6) years.
  • Valid driver's license in accordance with State and Commission rules. CDL with endorsements within 12 months of employment.
  • Pass Commission medical examination.

Responsibilities

  • Plans work and receives work orders for mechanical projects; troubleshoots and determines cause of equipment malfunction.
  • Performs difficult mechanical work and major repairs on trucks, tractors, backhoes, bulldozers, loaders, and other equipment.
  • Replaces or overhauls brake and fuel systems, generators, alternators, starters, and related components; paints and maintains equipment.
  • Performs regular preventive maintenance on vehicles and equipment; changes oil, filters, fluids, and tires.
  • Completes required administrative paperwork and maintains inventory and records.
  • Drives vehicles to transport workers, tools, and equipment; assists with training and supervision of trades personnel.

Education

High School diploma or GED
Mechanical apprentice program
Four (4) years of maintenance/repair experience
Two (2) years journey level experience
Six (6) years total education/experience equivalent

Tools

CDL with endorsements
ASE certifications preferred
