Job description

Compensation: $180,000 base salary + bonus
Schedule: Hybrid – In office Monday–Thursday, remote Friday
Location: Herndon, VA

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Lead Financial Advisor to step into an established book of approximately 130 client households averaging roughly $1 million in assets per household.

This is an immediate and high-priority hire due to the upcoming retirement of the advisor currently managing these relationships. The incoming advisor will take primary ownership of the book, ensuring a smooth transition and providing continuity across financial planning, investment management, and overall relationship management.

The initial focus of this position is servicing and retaining existing clients rather than business development. While organic growth and referrals are encouraged, there are no aggressive prospecting requirements.

Compensation
  • $180,000 base salary, with some flexibility for an exceptional candidate
  • Performance bonus based on a percentage of net/new assets
  • Target bonus opportunity of approximately 20%+ of base salary
  • Company-paid travel expenses for required client visits
Key Responsibilities
Client Relationship Management
  • Serve as the primary advisor and point of contact for an established book of approximately 130 households
  • Build strong relationships with clients and ensure a seamless transition from the retiring advisor
  • Develop a deep understanding of each client's financial situation, goals, family dynamics, and long-term objectives
  • Drive client retention while identifying opportunities to deepen relationships, expand wallet share, and generate referrals
  • Own the development, presentation, and ongoing management of comprehensive financial plans
  • Work extensively within eMoney to manage and maintain existing client financial plans
  • Coordinate with advisory support professionals to ensure planning recommendations are properly implemented
  • Proactively identify financial planning risks and opportunities for clients
Investment Management
  • Lead investment strategy and portfolio oversight for assigned clients
  • Develop and present investment recommendations
  • Participate in investment-related discussions and committee activities
  • Ensure client portfolios remain aligned with financial plans, objectives, and risk tolerances
  • Lead, mentor, and provide direction to Service Advisors and other advisory support professionals
  • Establish clear expectations and accountability across the client service team
  • Coordinate internal resources to deliver a high-quality and consistent client experience
Client Technology
  • Take ownership of the technology supporting the client experience, including CRM, financial planning software, and client-facing tools
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date client information and financial plans
  • Help clients effectively utilize available technology and planning resources
Required Qualifications
  • 5+ years of experience in a client-facing financial advisory or wealth management role
  • CFP® certification required
  • Series 7 required
  • Series 66 required OR Series 63 and Series 65 combination
  • Hands-on eMoney experience required
  • Strong comprehensive financial planning experience
  • Strong understanding of investment management, portfolio construction, and portfolio oversight
  • Experience independently managing significant client relationships
  • Ability to step immediately into an established book of business and serve as the primary advisor
  • Experience leading, mentoring, or directing advisory support professionals
  • Strong presentation, communication, and client-facing skills
  • Ability to travel occasionally for client meetings and events
Travel

Some clients are located outside the immediate office market, so occasional travel will be required for client meetings and events. All approved business travel expenses, including transportation and hotel accommodations when necessary, will be covered by the company.

What Success Looks Like

The immediate priority is successfully transitioning and retaining the existing client relationships. The ideal candidate will be comfortable taking ownership quickly, developing trust with an established client base, and managing sophisticated financial plans with minimal ramp-up time.

This position is best suited for an experienced advisor who combines strong financial planning and investment knowledge with the relationship-management skills necessary to inherit and lead a substantial existing book of business.
