Job summary

Surveying And Mapping, LLC (SAM) in Schaumburg, IL, seeks a skilled Land Survey Crew Chief to supervise daily field operations and data collection for boundary, topographic, and construction surveys. The role requires 5+ years of industry experience and the ability to travel as needed.

You will work with project managers, engineers, and technicians to plan data acquisition, read construction drawings, and maintain equipment while ensuring safety and accuracy of field notes and reports.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of industry experience; prior crew chief experience preferred.
• Competent operating robotic total stations, GNSS receivers, data radios/modems, terrestrial 3D laser scanners, automatic and digital levels, tablet PCs.
• Experience with Trimble equipment preferred.
• Strong computer, technical, and mathematical skills.
• Strong communication skills (listening, writing and verbal).

Responsibilities

• Supervise a land survey crew for daily field operations and data collection for surveys.
• Determine efficient plan of action for data acquisition from control to construction surveys.
• Read and interpret construction drawings and project specifications.
• Coordinate with project managers, engineers, and technicians on schedules and progress.
• Interact professionally with clients and landowners; travel as needed.
• Document field notes, sketches, and communications; prepare reports and time sheets.
• Maintain land surveying equipment and ensure safety procedures are followed.
