Job summary

RES Group is seeking a Lead Technician to lead field service technicians at utility-scale solar facilities. You will supervise maintenance of solar panels, trackers, inverters, and substations, while ensuring safety and compliance with LOTO and JHA processes.

The role demands strong leadership, hands-on electrical expertise across LV/MV/HV systems, and the ability to coordinate with stakeholders. On-site work with occasional travel and emergency response responsibilities are expected.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Associate degree in a technical field required.
  • 5+ years electrical maintenance experience required.
  • 3+ years medium voltage electrical work experience required.
  • 2+ years high voltage electrical work experience required.

Responsibilities

  • Lead a team of field service technicians.
  • Coordinate with plant maintenance and project stakeholders.
  • Perform preventive maintenance on AC and DC power systems.
  • Identify faulty or underperforming equipment and schedule repairs.
  • Ensure safety protocols, LOTO practices, and JHA processes are followed.
  • Interface with owners, manufacturers, and subcontractors.
  • Respond to emergency calls within 1.5 hours when prioritized.

Summary:

The Lead Technician will lead a team of field service technicians in operating and maintaining utility scale solar facilities. This work includes preventive and corrective maintenance of on-site assets such as solar panels, trackers, power inverters, and substation components.

Requirements:
  • Mentors and sets positive example for junior technicians.
  • Collaborates with senior line managers for plant maintenance.
  • Troubleshoots low voltage DC power systems.
  • Troubleshoots low voltage, medium voltage, and high voltage AC power systems.
  • Conducts preventive maintenance on AC and DC power systems.
  • Identifies faulty or underperforming equipment.
  • Utilizes hand tools effectively and appropriately.
  • Utilizes a computerized maintenance management system.
  • Maintains inventory of spare parts and consumables.
  • Develops and administers site operating plans.
  • Develops and implements site safety plans.
  • Adheres to proper Lock-out-tag-out (LOTO) practices and procedures.
  • Leads daily tailboards and conducts job hazard analysis (JHA).
  • Interfaces with project stakeholders (owners, equipment manufacturers, etc.).
  • Interfaces with project subcontractors.
  • Represents RES in professional manner.
  • Responds to physical location within 1.5 hours for emergency calls identified as a priority by Operations Control Center.
  • Operates RES company vehicles, including trucks, in accordance with state and federal laws and RES policies.
  • Attends work regularly and punctually, as scheduled or expected.
  • Complies with Employee Handbook, Code of Conduct and Company Policies & Procedures.
  • Rotating on-call schedule for emergency response.

Qualifications
  • Highschool Diploma/GED required.
  • Associate’s degree in technical field required.
  • 5+ years related electrical maintenance experience required.
  • 3+ years medium voltage electrical work experience required.
  • 2+ years high voltage electrical work experience required.
  • 2+ years managing or leading field technicians.
  • Valid Driver’s License Required.
  • Ability to reside with a maximum commuting distance of 60 miles from the work site to ensure availability for on-site responsibilities.
  • Ability to travel 5-15%.
  • OSHA 10/30 preferred.
  • FAA Part 107 Drone Pilot preferred.
  • Infrared Thermography (any level) preferred.
  • Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc).
  • Advanced Knowledge:
    • Low voltage DC power systems
    • Low voltage, medium voltage, and high voltage AC power systems
      • Drawings
      • Theory
    • OSHA regulations
    • Hand tools
    • Equipment operation (skid-steer, forklift, etc)
    • Job hazard analysis (JHA) creation
    • Electrical tools (multimeter, IR camera)
    • IV curve tracing
    • ANSI/NETA MTS

Anticipated base salary range: $38.13 - $47.66

The final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location.
