Job summary

The Planet Group is seeking a seasoned Field Commissioning Engineer to lead planning, execution, and start-up for complex projects. You will coordinate with construction, operations, and vendors to ensure safe, reliable startup of pipeline and process equipment.

This role requires hands-on field experience, strong troubleshooting skills, and the ability to manage multiple projects under tight schedules, including travel across the U.S. pipeline network.

Qualifications

• Technical college degree or diploma.
• At least 10 years of technical experience.
• Knowledge of API, NEC, CEC, CSA Z662, NFPA 11.
• Hands-on field commissioning experience and ability to independently execute start-up.
• Strong troubleshooting of instrumentation, controls, electrical systems.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; able to lead diverse teams.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities.

Responsibilities

• Develop commissioning plans, resources, cost estimates, schedules, and execution strategies.
• Coordinate field commissioning activities across projects and manage third-party contractors and internal teams.
• Perform in-house commissioning for smaller core projects in collaboration with Operations.
• Wire, configure, and test PLCs, instrumentation, control panels, and communication systems.
• Ensure activities comply with safety and project objectives.
• Handover equipment from Construction to Commissioning and to Operations with documentation.
• Oversee outage management planning for greenfield and brownfield projects.
• Travel 20–30 days per quarter; coordinate tight deadlines with safe working conditions.
