Job summary

Terracon in Raleigh, NC seeks an experienced archaeologist to provide fieldwork, artifact identification, and analysis for a broad range of projects. You will contribute to report writing, prepare proposals, and consult with clients and stakeholders.

Responsibilities include supervising field crews, PI on surveys, archival research, ensuring data quality, and presenting findings at conferences. A graduate degree in archaeology/anthropology and at least two years of experience are required.

Qualifications

  • MA/MS/PhD in Archaeology, Anthropology or closely related field with at least 2 years of related experience.
  • Familiarity with cultural history of the region and surrounding areas.
  • SOI qualification preferred.
  • A valid driver’s license may be required.

Responsibilities

  • Follow safety rules and participate in pre-task planning.
  • Support quality standards on proposal and project delivery.
  • Conduct fieldwork and write small to medium sized, relatively uncomplicated reports.
  • Manage a field crew and ensure Field Technicians and Crew Chiefs perform fieldwork to high standards.
  • May serve as Principal Investigator on survey and testing projects.
  • Conduct archival research or field documentation and ensure proper data collection and analyses.
  • Identify artifacts and recognize natural and cultural features/stratigraphy.
  • Ensure field forms and sample collection are accurate and meet project requirements.
  • Prepare simple proposals and present papers at conferences.
  • Promote pre-task planning for all projects.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
