Job summary

Terracon in Wisconsin is seeking a hands-on Archaeological Field Technician to support surveys, testing, and excavations under the supervision of a Crew Chief. You will help collect artifacts, document findings, and ensure safety and quality standards on every project.

The role focuses on fieldwork, artifact identification, and basic recording using standard forms, GIS/GPS tools, and MS Office. A bachelor's degree in archaeology or related field is required. Travel and field duties are expected.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Archaeology, Anthropology or related field.
  • Completion of an archaeological field school from an accredited institution or equivalent experience.
  • Basic knowledge of artifact identification, soils, and stratigraphy.
  • Familiar with Microsoft Office programs.
  • Able to use Global Positioning Systems
  • A valid driver's license with acceptable violation history may be required.

Responsibilities

  • Follow safety rules, guidelines and standards for all projects. Participate in pre-task planning. Report any safety issues or concerns to management.
  • Be responsible for maintaining quality standards on all projects.
  • Responsible for assisting with archaeological fieldwork, such as survey, excavation, artifact collection and basic documentation.
  • Conduct archaeological surveys or excavations using common archaeological tools and methods under the supervision of a Crew Chief or higher.
  • Identify artifacts and basic stratigraphy, recording information on standardized forms.
  • Assist more senior staff with other tasks as needed.
  • Maintain equipment.
  • Communicate basic information to Crew Chief or Archaeologist.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
