Job description

Description

PRIMARY DUTY

The Family Therapist is responsible for providing direct client care under the supervision of the Executive Clinical Director. The Family Therapist is primarily responsible for the delivery of professional services for clinical client care, program development and implementation, staffing and staff development, and representing The Manor to the public. The Family Therapist at The Manor is an experienced clinician who has developed a capacity to take the lead on complex cases involving substance abuse, addictive family dynamics, and severe trauma. Ongoing internal and external training opportunities are facilitated and supported for primary therapists in the areas of substance abuse treatment, process addictions, complex trauma, and co-occurring disorders.

The Manor holds a trauma-based model of treating substance use disorders and co-occurring conditions. The Family Therapist is developed in both traditional treatment modalities such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, and Structural Family Therapy as well as at least one third wave modality such as EMDR, Brainspotting, or Somatic Experiencing. There is a significant amount of support from the clinical team in working with each client as no one therapist manages a caseload solely or in isolation. Our treatment approach involves clinical teams which share responsibility for each client and each team member is focused on different areas of the client’s treatment process to include trauma re-processing (EMDR/natural processing/KAP), family and couples therapy, relapse prevention, self-regulation skill building, recovery-focused yoga, somatic experiencing, and/or internal family systems.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS include the following with additional support for other duties as relevant or needed to support programming and other clinical team members.

  • Provides regular family, individual, and group sessions for all clients, including coordination of care/case review. This includes providing care to the most complex clinical issues including trauma and family sessions.
  • Provides a high level of clinical expertise regarding severe and prolonged substance abuse disorders and mental health. Carries out clinical tasks related to the direct treatment, care, recovery planning, and rehabilitation of clients in dual-diagnosis, trauma-focused residential treatment center.
  • Supports co-creation and tracking of clinical treatment plans, biopsychosocial assessments, and other clinical assessments/screenings alongside other multi-disciplinary team members.
  • Supports and assists with crisis intervention and referrals for clients in cooperation with the medical team, clinical team, and established program guidelines.
  • Completes documentation in a timely manner including discharge summaries, treatment plans, and progress notes with strong clinical writing skills. Maintains up-to-date electronic medical record (EMR). Secures and safeguards client information per HIPAA and 42 CFR Part 2 standards.
  • Is directly involved and participates in professional development opportunities, supervision, training, and/or consultation meetings.
  • Participate in Wisconsin state-required and internal continuing education.
  • Other tasks as assigned.

  • Ability to plan and organize case workload and manage deadlines.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to carry out assigned projects to their completion.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing, establishing and maintaining effective working relationships, gaining cooperation, and resolving conflicts.
  • Recognition of the limits of one’s own professional expertise and the willingness to seek supervision and/or support, as needed.
  • Arrives at work/meetings on time, ensures work responsibilities are covered when absent.
  • Ability to appropriately communicate with clients and co-workers about abstinence-based recovery in accordance with The Manor’s philosophy. This includes a willingness and ability to not discuss alcohol or substance use with co-workers or clients unless in the context of recovery.
  • Willingness to understand and speak in a positive light about abstinence-based recovery programs, including 12-step, SMART Recovery, Dharma Recovery, etc.
