Job Summary: We’re on the hunt for a rockstar Lead Estimator & Preconstruction Manager to join our team. If you’ve got a passion for crunching numbers, juggling multiple projects, and collaborating with a dynamic, close-knit crew, we want you! You’ll be the mastermind behind accurate cost estimates, strategic preconstruction planning, and setting the stage for our projects during preconstruction. This role will lead preconstruction efforts, work closely with internal and external stakeholders, and deliver innovative, efficient, and high-value solutions for our projects.
Supervisory Responsibilities
- Manage the estimation process in collaboration with Preconstruction Managers and the Director of Preconstruction.
- Oversee subcontractor relationships to ensure alignment with project objectives and schedules.
- Mentor and support junior estimators and preconstruction team members as needed.
Duties/Responsibilities
- Lead the preparation of detailed and competitive project estimates in collaboration with the Director of Preconstruction and Pre Construction team.
- Oversee preconstruction efforts, including scheduling, risk analysis, and value engineering.
- Collaborate with external design teams, clients, and internal teams to ensure preconstruction plans accurately reflect the scope of work.
- Develop and maintain project estimates to achieve desired profit margins while adhering to company standards.
- Manage full preconstruction processes for both public and private jobs, including reviewing plans/specs and producing detailed budgets and estimates.
- Evaluate and scrub drawings to develop accurate scopes of work and ensure proper distribution to subcontractors.
- Identify and resolve inefficiencies in processes, materials, equipment, or workforce.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, local, and organizational laws, regulations, and safety guidelines.
- Maintain and strengthen subcontractor and supplier relationships to secure competitive pricing and reliability.
- Bring fresh ideas and innovative approaches to estimating and preconstruction workflows.
- Deliver presentations and proposals with confidence and clarity, translating complex concepts into actionable plans.
- Identify opportunities for process improvement and implement solutions to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities
- Strong organizational skills with meticulous attention to detail.
- Proven track record of producing detailed budgets, estimates, and hard-bid quotes with minimal oversight.
- Confidence in managing workload, delegating tasks, and mentoring junior estimators.
- Ability to evaluate drawings, develop scopes of work, and distribute documents effectively to subcontractors.
- Experience managing the full preconstruction process, from plan review to producing budgets and estimates.
- Excellent time management skills and ability to handle multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
- Deep understanding of material costs, labor costs, and construction production processes.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and construction software tools.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Effective communication and leadership skills, with the ability to manage teams and foster collaboration.
Education And Experience
- Associate’s degree in a related field or equivalent industry experience required.
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Business, or a related field preferred.
- A minimum of 5+ years of experience in construction estimating or preconstruction, with proven success on mid-to-large projects.
- Field experience and/or project management experience is preferred.
Physical Requirements
- Prolonged periods of standing and walking through project sites or production areas.
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk, working on computers, and reviewing project documents.
- Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds as needed.
- Visual acuity to inspect documents, products, and equipment accurately.
