Job summary

City of Fairhope (AL) is seeking a highly skilled Equipment Operator III to perform complex road construction and maintenance tasks across the city. Under supervisor, you will operate various heavy equipment, conduct safety inspections, and train newer staff while serving as crew leader on select projects.

The role requires a Class A CDL, extensive field experience with equipment such as backhoes, loaders, bulldozers, and rollers, and the ability to work in diverse weather conditions.

Qualifications

• Experience operating heavy equipment used in road construction.
• Valid Class A CDL and insurable driving record.
• Ability to perform pre-worksafety inspections and routine maintenance checks.
• Willingness to train others and lead crews on projects.
• Ability to work on-call, overtime, weekends, and emergencies as needed.

Responsibilities

• Operate heavy equipment across city streets, utilities, and ROW.
• Perform daily inspections and monitor equipment gauges for problems.
• Maintain log of activities and ensure safety protocols are followed.
• Lead and train crew members on complex tasks as assigned.
• Perform road, drainage, and utility maintenance activities as directed.
• Respond to emergency situations and assist with storm-related repairs.
