Job summary

The City of Fontana is seeking an Environmental Compliance Inspector II to perform and coordinate inspections of wastewater, storm water, and solid waste programs under limited supervision. This role supports regulatory compliance and public awareness within a dedicated team.

You will develop, coordinate, implement, monitor, and report on HHW, solid waste and recycling, pretreatment, and NPDES storm water activities. The incumbent may train staff and represent the City in interagency meetings.

Qualifications

• Two years in industrial waste inspection, monitoring, sampling, or related solid waste/recycling work.
• High School Diploma or GED with college coursework.
• California Class C Driver’s License and Environmental Compliance Inspector Grade I certification.
• Preferred: CWEA ECI, HazMat Technician, or 40-hour HAZWOPER.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate inspections of industrial, commercial, municipal, and governmental facilities.
• Perform pretreatment planning, permit renewals, and plan checks.
• Monitor and report on NPDES storm water, HHW, solid waste, and recycling programs.
• Train staff and represent the City in interagency committees.
• Respond to environmental emergencies and conduct field inspections as needed.
• Maintain records and communicate findings clearly.
