The Anywhere Real Estate Core Capabilities API Engineering team develops reusable, enterprise APIs used by internal and external product teams to build and deploy real estate software efficiently. We are seeking a Lead API Engineer (individual contributor) with proven experience in developing cloud-native API applications using Node.js. Significant experience with MongoDB, AWS, CI/CD, and test automation is required. This senior role involves coding, technical leadership, collaboration, and documentation. The ideal candidate will be passionate, capable of building strong peer relationships, and have full-stack experience (preferred but not required).

Job Summary

The API Engineering team develops enterprise APIs used across the organization to support rapid software development in real estate. We seek a Lead API Engineer with a strong background in Node.js, cloud-native applications, and related technologies. This role combines technical expertise with leadership and communication skills to drive project success and innovation.

What You’ll Do

• Design and implement flexible, scalable, and resilient software solutions.
• Align solutions with technical strategies, standards, and best practices (architecture, security, cloud, agile).
• Conduct design and code reviews.
• Promote automation in product delivery and operational support.
• Analyze requirements, design solutions, and assess feasibility.
• Identify improvement opportunities and lead their implementation.
• Collaborate with Product Teams to decompose and refine business requirements.
• Deliver solutions that meet business needs and satisfaction criteria.
• Foster relationships across teams to support delivery goals.
• Provide strategic insights, thought leadership, and clear communication to team members and stakeholders.
• Lead through change and adopt new technologies to support evolving business objectives.

What You’ll Need To Succeed

• 9+ years of experience in Agile development teams.
• 5+ years as a Node.js developer building microservices and RESTful APIs.
• 5+ years developing cloud-native applications with AWS services.
• Experience with modern front-end frameworks (React, Angular, or similar).
• 3+ years in MongoDB development.
• 3+ years scripting CI/CD pipelines and DevOps tools.
• 3+ years using test automation tools like Cypress.
• Experience with AWS CloudFormation, AWS CDK, or Terraform.
• Strong understanding of networking and security concepts.
• Self-motivated with excellent interpersonal skills.
• Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills.
• Excellent communication skills, tailored to the audience.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent experience.

Bonus Points

• Experience with UI/UX feasibility and converting designs into code.
