Job description

Job Description Summary

The Lead Engineer is responsible for providing technical leadership in the structural analysis and substantiation of aerospace components and systems. This role leads finite element and classical analysis activities to demonstrate compliance with strength, fatigue, vibration, durability, and life requirements. The Lead Engineer partners closely with design, materials, manufacturing, quality, and program teams to support new product introduction, producibility, field investigations, and fleet reliability. The role includes mentoring analysts, driving closure of technical risks, and presenting findings to internal and external stakeholders.

Responsibilities
  • Plan and execute linear and nonlinear stress analysis using hand calculations and finite element methods for mechanical components, subsystems, and system models from concept to production.
  • Manage technical projects including planning, scheduling, and risk assessment to ensure on‑time and on‑budget delivery.
  • Collaborate with cross‑functional teams (e.g., electrical engineering, manufacturing, supply chain) to ensure seamless integration of mechanical components and adherence to system requirements.
  • Assess static strength, low‑cycle fatigue, high‑cycle fatigue, creep, crack growth, burst, buckling, contact, and dynamic response.
  • Develop and implement rigorous test plans and validation strategies for mechanical components, analyze test data and provide data‑driven recommendations for design improvements.
  • Conduct root‑cause analysis of component failures and implement corrective actions to improve product reliability and performance.
  • Mentor and guide junior engineers, providing technical expertise and fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Stay abreast of industry trends, new technologies, and best practices in mechanical engineering, applying relevant advancements to GE Aerospace products.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant engineering standards, safety regulations, and quality procedures.
  • Prepare and present technical reports, design reviews, and project updates to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Execute the design, analysis, or evaluation of assigned projects using sound engineering principles and adhering to business standards, practices, procedures, and product/program requirements.
  • Utilize prior experience and technical expertise to solve straightforward tasks and propose solutions with guidance.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s or advanced degree in engineering from an accredited college or university.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in a design, analysis, or similar engineering position.
  • Must obtain and maintain US Government Security Clearance; prerequisite is U.S. citizenship.
Desired Characteristics
  • Minimum of 4 years of experience in mechanical design, analysis, or similar engineering position.
  • Demonstrated expertise in design and analysis tools such as Unigraphics/NX, Ansys Classic, and/or Ansys Workbench.
  • Experience with GD&T principles and reading drawings.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to influence others and lead small teams.
  • Strong oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze and solve technical design challenges with sound documentation, planning, and program management skills.
  • Ability to independently organize, document, plan, and execute simultaneous projects while aligning with business priorities.
  • Familiarity with GE Aerospace’s proprietary FLIGHT DECK lean operating model.
