Job Description Summary

The Staff Mechanical Design Engineer, located in Large Combat Engines, owns the design and hardware for new product introduction (NPI) on military products, solutions and systems. The main objective is to deliver these products that meet program commitments across Safety, Quality, Delivery, and Cost (SQDC). This role owns technical execution from concept through drawing release and verification, partnering across Systems, Aero, Structures, TSD, Manufacturing, Quality, Supply Chain, and Suppliers. It includes leadership and guidance for hardware owners and integration with program and supporting organizations. The role is subject to operating policy objectives and requires moderate autonomy and high levels of operational judgment to achieve outcomes.

Roles And Responsibilities
  • Execute the design, analysis, or evaluation of assigned projects using sound engineering principles and adhering to business standards, practices, procedures, and product/program requirements, including mechanical and/or electrical engineering for all products.
  • Apply specialized knowledge within the function, influence strategy development for the area of responsibility, control resources, and influence policy formulation.
  • Interpret simple internal and external business challenges and recommend best practices to improve products, processes, or services, staying informed of industry trends that may inform work.
  • Use high-level judgment to make decisions and handle complex tasks or problems in areas of operational, product management, manufacturing, technology, or engineering, assessing quality of information and asking pertinent questions to stakeholders. Offer new solutions to problems outside of set parameters and construct and provide recommendations.
  • Lead functional teams or projects with minimal resource requirements, risk, and/or complexity. Communicate difficult concepts and influence others’ options on particular topics, guiding others to consider a different point of view.
  • Coach engineers, standardize best practices, and contribute design practices and lessons learned for duct structures.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited university or college.
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in design engineering.

  • Design experience across multiple design disciplines and modules.
  • Large NPI program experience.
  • Knowledge of GD&T, tolerance stack-up, and producibility best practices.
  • Experience with structures, flanges/joints.
  • Supplier technical management experience (build readiness, FAI, SPS, capability, issue resolution).
  • Demonstrated experience owning designs from concept to release, including interfaces, tolerance control, and verification support.
  • Proficiency with CAD and engineering documentation/release rigor.
  • Strong cross-functional leadership and communication skills.

This role requires access to U.S. export-controlled information.
