Job summary

Avis Budget Group is seeking a hands‑on Lead Engineer to design, build, and operate mission‑critical enterprise applications on a modern Java stack deployed to OCI. You will lead a team through the full software lifecycle, setting technical direction and raising engineering quality across the group.

The role partners with product, architecture, security, and infra teams to modernize legacy systems, drive OCI adoption, and integrate with other enterprise apps.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of professional software engineering experience.
• 5+ years in Java backend development (Java 11+, Spring Boot, JPA/Hibernate, RESTful APIs).
• 2+ years hands‑on experience with Oracle Cloud Infrastructure — compute, OKE, networking, IAM, Autonomous Database, Object Storage, and OCI DevOps or equivalent CI/CD tooling.
• Proven experience leading engineering teams or serving as tech lead on complex, multi‑team initiatives.
• Strong grounding in microservices architecture, containerization (Docker, Kubernetes), and API design.
• Experience with relational databases (Oracle DB preferred) — schema design, performance tuning, PL/SQL a plus.
• CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins, GitLab CI, or OCI DevOps), infrastructure‑as‑code (Terraform).
• Working knowledge of authentication/authorization, encryption, secure SDLC.
• Excellent communication skills to present trade‑offs to leadership and translate business needs into plans.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design and development of scalable, secure services using Java and microservices patterns.
• Own end‑to‑end solution architecture on OCI, including compute, storage, and Autonomous Database.
• Provide technical leadership to a team of 4–8 engineers with mentoring and career development.
• Define and enforce engineering standards — CI/CD, test coverage, observability, and code reviews.
• Drive cloud migration and modernization, refactor monoliths to containerized services on OCI Kubernetes.
• Build and maintain integrations with enterprise systems.
• Ensure production reliability via monitoring, alerts, and incident response on OCI tools.
• Collaborate with product owners to translate requirements into roadmaps and delivery plans.
