Job summary

Platform9 Systems is seeking a Lead Engineer/Manager to join the newly formed Backup & Disaster Recovery group. You will lead design, development, and delivery of backup, restore, replication/CDP, and management features across our Private Cloud Director environments.

You will mentor a small team of engineers while ensuring data protection and recoverability targets are met, working with Product and Support to translate requirements into reliable, scalable solutions.

Qualifications

• 8+ years in software/systems engineering with DR/Backup/Replication focus.
• Experience leading or mentoring a team.
• Strong storage stack knowledge (FC, iSCSI, NVMe, RBD).
• Hands-on with CDP, snapshot/log replication.
• Proficiency in Rust, C/C++, Go, Java, or Python.
• Excellent cross-functional communication.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and own core Backup & DR features across platforms.
• Drive engineering decisions meeting performance, reliability, and cost goals.
• Architect storage-driver interfaces for multiple vendors.
• Architect storage-independent replication for cross-data center resiliency.
• Lead and mentor engineers, QA, UI/UX, and provide career guidance.
• Collaborate with Product/Support to define requirements and troubleshoot issues.
• Lead root-cause analysis for complex distributed systems.
• Contribute to architecture and roadmap discussions for storage and data protection.
