Job summary

Target is seeking a Lead Engineer, Automation Integration & Scale Engineering to join a brand-new, high-impact team transforming Target's Supply Chain and Stores, starting with Supply Chain.

You will own architecture and delivery of backend systems powering store and warehouse operations, lead discovery and prototyping, mentor engineers, and ensure scalable, reliable integrations with strong observability and operational support.

Qualifications

• 4-year degree or equivalent experience.
• 7+ years of software development with at least one full cycle.
• Strong expertise in distributed systems and event-driven architectures.
• Hands-on in building resilient, high-throughput backend systems.
• Experience with automation, hardware integration, or operational tech a plus.
• Commitment to staying current with new technologies.

Responsibilities

• Own architecture and delivery of backend systems powering store and warehouse operations.
• Lead technical discovery and rapid prototyping to prove value.
• Collaborate with product, operations, and platform teams to translate problems into scalable solutions.
• Guide the team through ambiguous spaces, ensuring timely, high-quality delivery.
