Summary

Company Summary

Accuity partners with hospitals and health systems through a technology-enabled, physician-led model that improves clinical documentation integrity, coding accuracy, reimbursement optimization, and quality outcomes.

Job Summary

The Lead Engineer leads the design and delivery of assigned epics and initiatives within Accuity’s application engineering organization, including work across Amplifi and related products and platforms. Reporting to the Vice President, Engineering, this role operates as a player-coach, personally building a meaningful share of the work while directing the engineers who form into a pod around the initiative for its duration.

Pods form around initiatives and flex with the work rather than existing as permanent teams. The Lead Engineer is accountable for the technical design, sequencing, quality, and delivery of the initiatives they lead, and for the effectiveness of the engineers contributing to them, without carrying formal direct reports.

The Lead Engineer builds within the patterns, standards, and reference implementations set by the Technical Lead and the engineering organization, and escalates cross-cutting technical questions rather than resolving them locally in ways that diverge from the rest of the estate.

Responsibilities
Technical Delivery Leadership
  • Own the technical design and delivery of assigned epics and initiatives from requirements through production.
  • Break initiatives into workable increments, sequence them realistically, and surface dependencies and risks early.
  • Direct the day-to-day technical work of the engineers assigned to the initiative pod, without formal reporting authority.
  • Personally build a meaningful share of the work rather than only coordinating it.
  • Ensure delivered work meets the quality, security, performance, and documentation standards defined for the organization.
  • Communicate progress, blockers, risks, and tradeoffs clearly to the Vice President, Engineering.
Engineering Craft and Quality
  • Write, review, and maintain high-quality production code.
  • Uphold code review, automated test coverage, static analysis, and definition of done standards within the pod.
  • Build within the established patterns, standards, and reference implementations for the application estate, and escalates to the Technical Lead where a genuine case exists to deviate.
  • Instrument services for monitoring, alerting, and troubleshooting, and take ownership of the health of what the pod ships.
  • Identify and remediate technical debt within the areas of ownership rather than deferring it indefinitely.
Product and Platform Contribution
  • Partner with Product and business stakeholders to translate requirements into workable technical designs, surfacing feasibility, effort, and tradeoffs early.
  • Identify functionality being built repeatedly and raise it as a candidate for shared platform capability rather than solving it locally one more time.
  • Contribute to application convergence and modernization work, including migration onto the modern data foundation.
  • Support the planned retirement of components, interfaces, and internal tools that the pod’s work replaces.
Collaboration and Mentorship
  • Mentor engineers on the pod through pairing, code review, and design discussion.
  • Work with Platform Management on delivery, environment, and test needs, using shared platform capability rather than building parallel tooling.
  • Coordinate with other Lead Engineers and with the Technical Lead on shared interfaces, dependencies, and overlapping work.
  • Support the onboarding of new engineers into the codebase, the domain, and the standards they are expected to work within.
Quality, Security, and Compliance
  • Design and build to HIPAA, HITRUST, and PHI protection requirements applicable to Accuity’s applications and client environments.
  • Follow secure development practices, including vulnerability remediation and dependency management.
  • Support incident response and root cause resolution for production issues in owned areas.
Other Duties as Assigned
  • Perform additional responsibilities as needed to support engineering, technology, and organizational goals.
Qualifications
Education and Credentials
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, software engineering, or a related technical field preferred; equivalent professional experience may be considered.
Experience
  • 7+ years of hands‑on software engineering experience, including leading the delivery of significant features or initiatives end to end.
  • Experience directing the technical work of other engineers on a project, initiative, or pod basis.
  • Experience with cloud‑native application development, preferably in Microsoft Azure.
  • Strong background in full‑stack development, APIs, databases, testing, CI/CD, and application monitoring.
  • Experience working within established engineering standards and design review processes.
  • Experience in a regulated or security‑sensitive environment, healthcare preferred.
Core Competencies
  • Delivery Ownership: Takes an initiative from requirements to production and stays accountable for the outcome, not just the assigned tasks.
  • Technical Craft: Writes and reviews code others can maintain, and holds a high bar without slowing the team down.
  • Player‑Coach Leadership: Directs and develops the engineers on a pod while continuing to build a meaningful share of the work.
  • Design Judgment: Chooses approaches that fit the problem, the standards, and the timeline, and explains the reasoning.
  • Standards Adherence: Builds within established patterns and raises a case for exceptions rather than quietly diverging.
  • Collaboration: Works effectively across pods, Product, Platform, and Data functions on shared interfaces and dependencies.
  • Communication: Explains progress, risk, and tradeoffs clearly to engineers, leadership, and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Mentorship: Develops less experienced engineers through pairing, review, and honest, useful feedback.
  • Pragmatism: Balances speed and quality deliberately, and knows which corners can be cut and which cannot.
  • Adaptability: Moves between initiatives, domains, and pod compositions without losing effectiveness.
  • Remote‑Work Effectiveness: Communicates proactively, documents decisions, and maintains visibility into progress in a fully remote organization.
