Job summary

Exowatt is hiring a Controls & Firmware Engineer to design control architecture for a scalable thermal energy storage system. You’ll work across PLC programming and embedded firmware, building test benches and CI/CD workflows to ensure reliability and rapid iteration.

The role is based in Austin, TX with relocation assistance to Miami optional. You will collaborate on energy storage integration, EMS/SCADA development, and real-time control for industrial environments.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Electrical/Controls/Computer Engineering or related field.
2–6 years of PLC programming and/or embedded firmware experience.
Proficiency with Siemens TIA Portal or Rockwell Studio 5000.
Strong coding skills in C/C++ (Rust/Python a plus).
Experience with GitHub workflows and CI/CD pipelines.
Familiarity with utility-scale energy systems or DERs.
Understanding of industrial networking protocols (Profinet, Ethernet/IP, OPC UA, DNP3, MQTT).

Responsibilities

Develop and test PLC programs for system, module, and site-level controllers.
Design and implement embedded firmware in C/C++ for microcontrollers; support migration from PLC-based controls.
Set up and maintain test benches / HIL environments for validation.
Develop EMS/SCADA mappings to historians, HMIs, and cloud telemetry systems.
Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines and test automation for software and firmware.
Support system integration, commissioning, and field validation.
