Job summary

L3Harris Space and Mission Systems seeks a Lead Embedded Software Engineer in Wilmington, MA to develop embedded flight software for space-based imaging payloads. You will lead design, debugging, and implementation across the full lifecycle, interfacing hardware and software in mission-critical environments.

The role emphasizes strong C/C++ and RTOS expertise, mentoring junior engineers, and collaborating with systems, hardware, and test teams to ensure performance and reliability of space

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related field; 9+ years of experience; or 7+ years with graduate degree.
• Ability to obtain TS/SCI clearance.
• 7+ years embedded software development for aerospace products.
• 5+ years with RTOS (VxWorks, FreeRTOS, RTLinux, QNX); C/C++, Python, scripting.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, test, and maintain embedded C++ software on Linux for space-based applications.
• Develop hardware interfaces: low-level I/O, device communication, register interaction, interrupt handling.
• Build multi-threaded applications with deterministic behavior and resource management.
• Integrate NASA cFS or similar spaceflight frameworks into software.
• Support architecture, debugging, and optimization across the lifecycle.
• Collaborate with systems, hardware, integration, and test teams to meet mission requirements.
• Participate in bring-up, hardware/software integration, and verification activities.
• Contribute to code reviews, planning, standards, and development best practices.
• Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineers.
