Job summary

OpenTalent is representing a direct hire for our client in Carlsbad, CA, on-site. They seek an Embedded Software Engineer (Battery Management System) to lead development of a high-voltage BMS platform and own the software architecture, validation, and long-term strategy.

You will collaborate with embedded software, electrical, and systems teams, starting from architecture through deployment, mentoring junior engineers as the team grows in a fast-paced startup environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field.
• 10+ years of embedded software development experience.
• 3+ years of high-voltage Battery Management System experience.
• Strong C programming skills with working knowledge of C++.
• Experience with bare-metal embedded systems and Linux development.
• Proficiency with Git and source control practices.
• Experience using Python and test equipment.
• Track record of delivering production-quality embedded software.

Responsibilities

• Lead development and ownership of high-voltage BMS software
• Define technical direction and execution plans for the BMS program
• Design, develop, debug, test, and validate embedded software
• Translate system requirements into software architecture and implementation
• Develop embedded drivers from hardware schematics and component datasheets
• Bring up, test, and troubleshoot new circuit board designs
• Collaborate with electrical, systems, and embedded software teams
• Participate in code, software design, and schematic reviews
• Maintain high standards for software quality, performance, and maintainability
• Support internal ownership of critical vehicle technology
• Mentor junior engineers as the team grows
