Job description

Job Description

The Systems Development Division (SDD) delivers technology advantage into users' hands by providing capabilities focused on end-customer needs that operate in relevant environments and timeframes. SDD considers the entire lifecycle of solutions, from conceptualization and architecture to development and deployment, leveraging innovative technologies to deliver first-of-a-kind systems. Current projects include programs for airborne and space RF as well as advanced testing enabled by multi-function, multi-modal capabilities.

SDD is seeking a Lead Embedded Software Engineer to support the design, development, and implementation of real-time processing solutions in software for advanced multi-function Radar systems. You will collaborate with researchers and engineers on multidisciplinary teams to develop innovative solutions related to Radar and EW/RF convergence. Responsibilities include identifying and evaluating technical approaches, designing and implementing digital signal processing architectures, and leading teams throughout the signal processing chain for radar applications in various operational environments.

You will perform performance analysis through simulations and real-world testing to validate and optimize products. Additionally, you will evaluate current and future capabilities, identify improvements, and recommend solutions. Since systems developed are deployed in operational environments, products must meet standards of quality, maintainability, and reusability. The role offers opportunities for technical leadership, design, analysis, development, testing, and deployment of capabilities.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate leadership and expertise in areas such as radar, electronic warfare, digital signal processing, systems engineering, and test & evaluation. Skills in working with multidisciplinary teams, understanding relevant technologies, and delivering systems within tight deadlines are essential. Strong interpersonal, communication, and technical skills are required, along with self-motivation, attention to detail, and effective communication abilities.

What you will do:
  • Support and lead the development of innovative radar/EW systems through digital signal processing (DSP)
  • Architect, design, direct, and implement cutting-edge embedded software in multi-function, deliverable/deployable systems
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand and develop system requirements and specifications
  • Research and lead new embedded software implementations, identifying technical approaches and refining technology/product roadmaps
  • Use tools to create, evaluate, and document solutions; communicate them clearly to teams, management, and customers
  • Design and implement signal processing and software solutions
  • Conduct performance analysis through simulations and testing to validate and optimize system performance
  • Prepare documentation, design specifications, test plans, and reports
  • Communicate effectively with internal teams and stakeholders about technical concepts and project updates
Who you are:
  • Must have an Active SECRET security clearance with eligibility for a Top Secret (TS) clearance; U.S. citizenship required
  • Expertise in real-time signal processing solutions in C++ (C++17 or later)
  • Knowledge of digital signal processing
  • Understanding of Radar system design, development, verification, testing, and data analysis
  • Experience with algorithm implementation for real-time radar and remote sensing systems
  • Experience with Xilinx MPSoC and/or RFSoC platforms
  • Experience in technical briefings and reviews (SRRs, PDRs, CDRs, TIMS)
  • Ability to work in teams, mentor junior engineers, and communicate effectively
  • Educational background: Bachelor's degree with at least 7 years of experience, or Master's with 5 years, or PhD with 2 years; equivalent experience considered
Nice to have:
  • CUDA experience
  • Experience with radar simulation tools (MATLAB)
  • Active Top Secret clearance
  • Knowledge of target detection
  • Experience in Electronic Warfare, Antenna, Sensor Management, Large-Scale Testing, Cyber Physical Systems, or Open Architectures
Required Education:
  • Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, Physics, Radar Systems, or related fields
