Collins Aerospace, a RTX company, seeks a Principal Software Engineer in Cedar Rapids to lead embedded Linux development across multiple hardware boards. You will work on state-of-the-art communications and security-focused software, collaborating with FPGA, hardware, and systems teams to integrate advanced tech into Mission Systems products. The role requires a U.S.

government security clearance, U.S. citizenship, and hands-on experience with embedded C/C++, Bash, Python, and Linux drivers.

Qualifications

• Degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) with 8+ years experience or Advanced Degree with 5+ years experience.
• Ability to obtain/maintain US government security clearance; US citizenship required.
• Proficiency in Bash/Python scripting and embedded C/C++.
• Experience with embedded Linux device drivers and board bring-up.
• Experience debugging with hardware schematics, logic analyzers, and Wireshark.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop and maintain embedded Linux OS ecosystem, including kernel, root filesystem, and BSP for multiple hardware boards.
• Contribute to design, coding, testing, delivery and support for embedded Linux systems.
• Perform root cause analysis and resolve hardware-software issues.
• Prepare software builds for simulation, reference platforms, and target hardware.
• Follow Collins Aerospace processes to improve product quality and customer satisfaction.
• Contribute to engineering estimates for new programs and provide technical leadership.
