Associate Director │ Low Carbon Tech & Fuels │ We’re hiring 🌍

Brightsmith is collaborating with an innovative clean technology company that is transforming conventional power plant methods, enabling nuclear energy deployment that is faster and more cost-effective.

The company is now seeking a Lead Electrical Engineer to join their technical team in Houston, Texas.

This role offers the opportunity to provide expert technical guidance and hands‑on engineering leadership for nuclear plant operations. The ideal candidate will lead the installation, testing, troubleshooting, and commissioning of electrical and I&C systems for power generation projects, combining deep technical knowledge with on‑site oversight.

Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver expert technical support for engineering analysis, program development, and implementation.
  • Offer guidance to resolve equipment and system challenges efficiently.
  • Oversee engineering projects from concept to completion, ensuring accurate configuration management.
  • Apply engineering principles to assigned tasks, ensuring alignment with design criteria, codes, and industry standards.
  • Conduct independent research and technical reviews to support ongoing programs.
  • Recommend equipment, design improvements, or techniques to enhance performance, reduce costs, and meet regulatory requirements.
  • Provide comprehensive electrical and I&C engineering support, including high- and low-voltage power distribution, generator protection, DCS, PLCs, SCADA, and field instrumentation.
  • Review and validate design drawings, wiring diagrams, single‑line diagrams, and control logic.
  • Evaluate vendor documentation for electrical and I&C equipment and collaborate with OEMs.
  • Guide site construction teams on installation practices, cable routing, terminations, grounding, and loop checks.
  • Ensure compliance with design specifications, safety codes (NEC, IEEE, IEC), and QA/QC standards.
  • Lead commissioning efforts for electrical and I&C systems, including cold/hot loop checks, system energization, instrument calibration, functional tests, and generator synchronization with protection relay verification.
  • Work closely with start‑up teams to ensure proper operation of gas turbines, steam turbines, HRSG controls, and balance‑of‑plant systems.
Candidate Requirements
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Instrumentation, Control Systems, or a related discipline (Master’s preferred).
  • 5–10 years of experience in electrical and I&C engineering within power generation, including a minimum of 5 years in field construction/commissioning of gas turbine or combined cycle plants.
  • Proficiency in interpreting and troubleshooting P&IDs, loop drawings, and electrical schematics.
