Job summary

CEI seeks a fully competent Electrical Engineer with proven experience in designing large-scale solar PV and battery energy storage systems (BESS) from 1 to 500+ MW, interconnected at medium-voltage levels.

This role demands judgment, creativity, and strong technical skill to adapt or improve processes and independently complete assignments while receiving guidance for complex problems and mentoring others.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
• 5–7 years of experience at an electrical design firm or design-build contractor (solar experience preferred).
• Experience as Engineer-of-Record is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Execute electrical designs for utility-scale PV and BESS projects.
• Produce construction drawings, reports, and specs.
• Design and review AC/DC systems, grounding, DAS wiring, and electrical layouts.
• Perform and review load flow, short circuit, voltage drop, etc.
• Review equipment submittals, respond to RFIs, support construction with technical expertise.
• Lead coordination with engineers, PMs, superintendents, and clients.
• Follow QA/QC and ensure compliance with codes and standards.
• Mentor junior engineers and designers.
• Attend site visits and technical meetings as required.

About The Role

We’re seeking afully competent Electrical Engineerwith proven experience in designing large-scalesolar PV and battery energy storage systems (BESS)from 1 to 500+ MW, interconnected at medium-voltage levels. This role requires judgment, creativity, and technical skill to adapt or improve existing processes and independently complete assignments. You’ll also receive guidance for complex or unique problems, while leading or mentoring others on the team.

Responsibilities

• Execute electrical designs for utility-scale PV and BESS systems
• Produce complete construction documentation, including drawings, reports, and specifications
• Design and review AC/DC systems, grounding, DAS wiring, and electrical layouts
• Perform and review supporting calculations: load flow, short circuit, voltage drop, power loss, thermal analysis, etc.
• Review equipment submittals, respond to RFIs, and support construction with technical expertise
• Lead internal and external coordination with engineers, PMs, superintendents, general foremen, and clients
• Follow QA/QC processes and ensure compliance with applicable codes and standards
• Provide technical mentorship to junior engineers and designers
• Attend site visits and technical meetings as required
• Stay current on continuing education and maintain licensure
• Champion CAD and design workflows across the team

Required Skills & Knowledge

Strong command of NEC and NESC codes for commercial and utility-scale power system design

Proficiency in:

• AutoCAD
• ETAP or equivalent
• Microsoft Office (advanced Excel and Word)
• PVsyst and Cymcap experience
• Experience as Engineer-of-Record

Excellent communication, time management, and organizational skills

Detail-oriented and able to work independently and as a team leader

Ability to manage complex projects and coordinate with cross-functional teams
