Job summary

Thomas Young Group is seeking an experienced Electrical Engineer to lead design efforts on diverse building projects in California. You will work with Lead Engineers and Project Managers to perform complex calculations, design power distribution per NEC 700–702, and specify major equipment.

The role requires 8–10 years in electrical design for buildings, strong code knowledge, and proficiency with Revit, BIM 360, Bluebeam, and SKM. You will mentor juniors and drive project success.

Qualifications

• 8-10 years of experience in electrical engineering design for buildings.
• Strong knowledge of NEC, California, and local building and energy codes.
• Experience across sectors such as commercial, healthcare, life sciences, data centers, or similar.
• Comfort working independently while collaborating with a project team.
• Experience with emergency power systems and limited exposure to medium voltage design.
• Proficiency with Revit, BIM 360, Bluebeam, Microsoft Office, and SKM.

Responsibilities

• Lead electrical design efforts on projects ranging from small renovations to large builds.
• Support and partner closely with Lead Engineers and Project Managers.
• Perform detailed electrical calculations including voltage drop, short circuit, arc flash, and coordination studies.
• Design power distribution systems including emergency, standby, and EPSS per NEC Articles 700–702.
• Design and size power distribution feeders, breakers, and equipment for safety and reliability.
• Lead selection and specification of key electrical equipment such as switchboards and UPS.
• Develop electrical room layouts and coordinate with other disciplines.
• Review shop drawings, submittals, and RFIs; participate in client meetings and coordination.
• Mentor junior engineers and designers; support project planning and change management.
• Conduct site observations and contribute to feasibility studies and sustainability analyses.
