Job summary

County of San Mateo is seeking an Environmental Health Specialist IV to lead the Solid Waste and Body Art Programs within the Environmental Health Division in San Mateo, CA. The role requires travel across the county and provides lead direction to staff while serving as a technical expert in LEA duties.

Ideal candidates hold a California REHS certificate, have three years of journey level experience in environmental health, and possess a valid California driver license.

Qualifications

• Three years of journey level experience as a Registered Environmental Health Specialist.
• Experience in a regulatory agency in the designated option is preferred.
• California certificate as Registered Environmental Health Specialist is required.

Responsibilities

• Provide lead direction, training, and work review to assigned staff.
• Serve as technical expert in Solid Waste and Body Art programs.
• Review and approve solid waste facility permitting documents.
• Approve construction of new body art establishments.
• Conduct routine inspections of solid waste and body art facilities and practitioners.
• Develop, standardize, and update staff inspection procedures.
• Investigate and resolve public complaints and liaise with stakeholders.
• Prepare reports and assist in legislative and guideline development.
