Job summary

Socket.dev is seeking an Advanced Safety Specialist in Hopewell, VA to lead site safety and occupational health programs. You will serve as a subject matter expert across critical safety areas and drive continuous improvement with operations, maintenance, and engineering teams.

The role includes leading the Emergency Response Team, coordinating drills, maintaining FEPP-like readiness, and ensuring regulatory compliance through audits and program updates.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Environmental Health & Safety, Occupational Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Engineering, or related field or equivalent experience.
• Minimum of four years of progressively responsible EHS/Safety experience in heavy manufacturing, chemical, or industrial environments.
• Preferred safety certifications such as ASP, CSP, OHST, CHST, OSHA 30-hour, or CIH.

Responsibilities

• Independently manage assigned site safety and occupational health programs and ensure compliance with regulatory, corporate, and site requirements.
• Serve as a subject matter expert for critical safety programs (Lockout/Tagout, Confined Space Entry, Work Permitting, Respiratory Protection, PPE, Fall Protection, Electrical Safety, Industrial Hygiene, etc.).
• Develop, implement, review, and improve site safety standards, procedures, and safe work practices.
• Evaluate regulatory and company-standard changes and lead implementation of improvements.
• Provide technical guidance to site leadership, supervisors, employees, contractors, engineering, and maintenance personnel.
• Lead the Emergency Response Team (ERT) program, readiness, training, drills, and corrective actions.
• Coordinate emergency preparedness activities with Operations, Maintenance, Engineering, and others, and liaise with local emergency services.
• Lead hazard assessments, audits, risk assessments, and incident investigations; implement corrective actions and track trends.
