Job summary

Melwood is hiring a part-time Lead Educational Aide at Colin Powell Academy in Fort Washington, MD to support teachers with Career Exploration activities, homework help, and student monitoring. The role focuses on fostering engagement and academic growth.

You’ll assist with small group sessions across core subjects, tailor instruction to individual students, and collaborate with PD, teachers, and families. Attendance and materials management are also part of the duties.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent; some college coursework in education or related field preferred.
• Previous experience working with children or in an educational setting is highly desirable.
• Strong knowledge of core subjects and ability to provide academic support in math, science, English, etc.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to relate well to students, parents, and staff.

Responsibilities

• Assist teachers with activities including Career Exploration endeavors and homework completion, and monitor students during snack time.
• Assist teachers with small group sessions covering various subjects and career exploration topics, tailoring instruction to meet individual student needs.
• Collaborate with PD, teachers, and team to provide ideas and implement educational activities that promote learning and engagement; participate in scheduled meetings before students arrive.
• Foster a positive, safe learning environment and supervise students during program hours, implementing positive behavioral interventions as needed.
• Collaborate with PD, teachers, and staff to create and maintain a structured daily schedule. Communicate with parents/guardians regarding student progress.
• Attend staff meetings and fulfill program administrative tasks, such as attendance records and preparing materials in the Efforts To Outcomes data system (ETO).
