Job summary

WyoFile is seeking a Managing Editor to lead a growing team of staff reporters, columnists, and freelancers in Lander, Casper, or Laramie, WY. You will guide day-to-day operations and help shape WyoFile’s editorial vision while balancing sustainable work-life standards.

The role requires strong AP style expertise, sharp news judgment, and mentoring ability to develop talent and manage budgets. Remote collaboration and a flexible, entrepreneurial environment are valued.

Qualifications

• Editorial leadership with a track record of guiding staff reporters and freelancers.
• Exceptional writing, reporting and editorial craft with AP style expertise.
• Experience mentoring reporters and managing story budgets.

Responsibilities

• Manage a team of staff reporters, columnists and freelance contributors, many working remotely.
• Collaborate on story development from topic selection through writing and reporting.
• Develop and enforce near-, mid-, and long-term story budgets and deadlines.
• Mentor reporters, grow the contributor network and recruitment pipeline.
• Generate and pitch story ideas and contribute to editorial vision and product development.
